So Cruel: a sibling serenade (2013)

True Stories (2012)

Written by Amelia Longo

This is a story about a boy and a girl. It’s sometimes about a dog instead. There are words, and there’s music. I am trying to tell you something about sound. About making it, and about hearing it. About language and other auditory connections. I am trying to tell you something. I’d like you to listen.

So Cruel: a sibling serenade

Written by Amelia Longo

Performance prose. A ballad without rhymes. A silent movie soundtrack without film. When we were friends. When we were fighting. When it got better. It’s about my brother. It’s about me. It’s everybody’s fault. A sibling serenade.

SO CRUEL is an intimate audience experience that includes walking around two city blocks in Queen Village with the soundtrack in your headphones.

formerly The True Story, or vicious & multiple & untrue after all

Written by Amelia Longo

Inspired by her own life, writer Amelia Longo embraces and races away from love in this witty and insightful memoir performance piece about her struggles with trust, truth, and expectations in love. Ensemble members each tell different versions of the same story through the unique lens of Amelia's conflicted feelings. In a world of multiple truths, there is no one true story.

Press for True Stories

“Seven different women perform seven different interpretations of writer Amelia Longo’s based-on-a-true-story memoir/performance piece. Each version explores the conflicting truths about being a woman in a romantic relationship . . . True Story plays with the notion that sometimes the facts are malleable while tackling the difficulties, confusions, ambiguities and disappointments of romance. How does a woman maintain a sense of self while in a relationship? When should she compromise? When should she embrace, and when should she reject?”

“. . . This seven-woman cast audibly inhales a collective breath, seven appendages of the same body amplifying Longo’s story like an ancient Greek chorus.”
